MR BURRELL HAS NOW RETIRED FROM HIS PRIVATE GYNAECOLOGY PRACTICE.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a common problem that affects how a woman’s ovaries work. It can be associated with weight gain, unwanted hair growth, acne, irregular or absent periods and fertility problems. The three main features of this condition are:-
- Many small cysts in the ovaries (polycystic ovaries)
- Irregular or no release of eggs from the ovaries (ovulation)
- High levels of male hormone testosterone
PCOS will usually be diagnosed in women who have at least two of these features.
An ultrasound scan & blood tests will routinely be performed to establish a diagnosis of PCOS.
