Mr Burrell is the lead clinician for Fetal Medicine scanning at the Luton & Dunstable NHS Hospital & he also runs a high quality ultrasound service in his private practice.
There are a number of different ultrasound scans that are suitable for different stages of pregnancy:-

Fetal Viability Scan (6 to 10 weeks)
This scan can be carried out from 2 weeks after a positive pregnancy test. At this stage it may be possible to detect the heartbeat. This may be an internal scan if performed in early pregnancy. The scan aims to:-
- check the pregnancy is in the womb (not ectopic)
- diagnose twins (or more)
- confirm the viability (heartbeat)
Nuchal Scan (11 weeks +1 day – 13 weeks + 6 days)
